Expedition ÜberMorgen (Expedition BeyondTomorrow) is a journalism platform built around one question: which options does each individual have to support the UN’s sustainable development goals?

Its centerpiece is an interactive, data-driven globe that lets you compare your own behavior with global statistics — turning the hard-to-grasp statistical basis of the development goals into something you can hold against your own life. Constructive journalism and data literacy were the guiding ideals: not just reporting the state of the world, but making its numbers personally interpretable.

The platform itself is a publishing system: fully configurable through a JSON data structure, it released one sustainable development goal per month, weaving interactive features and written reports into one connected experience.

Created with Lokaler (Lorenz Matzat) for Spiegel Online (Christina Elmer, Anna Behrend), funded by Journalism Grants, and published on Spiegel’s project page in English and German.
